Painters show off their creations at the end of classLast week, Come Paint With Us launched our first paint and sip class with physical distancing measures in place. Artist and instructor Katherine Dorland led the class as they sipped and painted “What the World Needs Now.” Since our classes are held in such a large venue, The Foothills Event Center, it allows us to provide each of our guests with a wide personal space in keeping with the CDC’s current physical distancing guidelines. Today, we hear from one of our class participants what our first physically-distanced paint class was like.

She shares, “It was wonderful to see friends that I’m close to but haven’t seen in a long time due to COVID. Upon walking in, it was unusual to see a masked greeter at the front door with a thermometer in hand, but she was cheerful and made me comfortable. There were masks for sale at the front counter as masks are required in the facility, and that made me feel like we were prepared for those that came without one.”

Instructor Katherine leads the classAt our “What the World Needs Now” class, we numbered tables ahead of time so that we could assign participants to a table, removing the guesswork out of where to sit. The tables were placed far apart, and each person was seated plenty far enough away from the other attendees to feel safe, yet still able to interact with them if needed.

The instructor, Katherine, began class with a quick review of the protocols in place, like remembering to physical distance if lining up for the restroom and a reminder to keep masks on when not drinking or eating. Katherine had a camera pointed at what she was painting, which was projected onto a big screen. “I felt like I had a ‘front seat’ throughout the class to see her technique. It was incredibly helpful and could be seen from the very back of the room,” says a local Grass Valley woman at the class.

Participants follow along at our What the World Needs Now classShe continues, “The bar was great, and instead of purchasing individual glasses of wine, my friend and I split a bottle. We picked up two bottles of water and an uncorked bottle and two glasses from the bar. We did all the pouring and saved a little money. We took a couple of breaks to step outside and remove our masks for a few minutes. It was quite enjoyable, and everyone had a great time!”

Come Paint With Us plans to hold paint classes like this for the foreseeable future, to do our part in preventing the spread of COVID-19. We’re currently the only spot in town offering physically-distanced paint and sip classes. Your health is paramount to us, so we will ensure that these safety precautions were in place:

  • Spacing our students safely apart
  • Limiting our class sizes
  • Providing people with disposable plastic aprons, instead of our customary cloth ones
  • Thoroughly cleaning all frequently-touched surfaces
  • Requiring that all class participants wear masks
  • Instructors and employees must wear masks
  • Asking everyone not to attend if exhibiting any symptoms of any illness

All proceeds from our classes benefit the Lifetime Adoption Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3 charity focusing on children and human services. The organization provides help and funding for families living in sub-poverty situations, adoption grants for couples opening their homes to hard-to-place children, and scholarships for birth mothers.
