Sugar Skull paint and sip classJoin us in a couple of weeks for a paint and sip class which combines Mexican culture with creativity! On Tuesday, October 29 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm, we’ll have a fun and festive Sugar Skull painting class. This bright and colorful sugar skull is fun for everyone to paint! Try adding your own personal details and touches to really make it your own.

Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is Mexican holiday celebrated to honor deceased loved ones. This year, Dia de los Muertos starts on October 31. The veil between the living and the dead is lifted, and the departed loved ones are invited to visit. Beautifully decorated Sugar Skulls are often used as decorations on graves and altars during Dia de los Muertos.

Traditionally, sugar skulls are little skulls made from sugar, decorated and placed on altars as offerings to the deceased. Skulls are also said to represent rebirth into the next stage of life. You might create a sugar skull painting with a loved one who has passed in mind. Or maybe you’d like to celebrate the Day of the Dead with a sugar skull painting!

Different variations of Sugar Skulls paintingsPaint along with Nevada County artist Julia Ward at the Foothills Event Center in Grass Valley. Julia will walk you through recreating the featured painting of the evening. Take as much creative license as you like to put your own spin on your canvas to make it your own work of art!

No experience is necessary. In fact, beginners are encouraged to join in the fun!

When you sign up for the Sugar Skull painting class, all materials will be included. This includes step-by-step instruction, a 20×16-inch canvas, an easel, brushes, apron, and paint. Invite your friends for a fun evening spent enjoying wine, snacks, and painting! You can get as creative as you’d like, by adding your own symbols and colors to create your own unique work of art.

Proceeds from Come Paint With Us classes benefit Lifetime Adoption Foundation, a local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Lifetime Adoption Foundation provides assistance to women and children in need, as well as scholarships to birth mothers who have lovingly chosen adoption.
