Painting instructor Kathy PhillipsCome Paint With Us is excited to welcome a new painting instructor! Kathy Phillips is joining our team and has created three works of art to teach attendees. You can see the paintings she has created in the photo to the left; click on the photo to see it larger.

Kathy grew up in the Bay Area and moved to Nevada City five years ago. She studied art and literature at Diablo Valley College and San Francisco State University but was always interested in graphic design. She shares, “I began freelancing in the 1980’s before computers! The first Mac Plus was a dream to use after cutting and pasting. I took classes in computer graphics wherever I could find them and learned on the fly. I am a firm believer in lifelong learning and have taken classes over the years in fine art, graphics, printing and writing. I worked for the Bay Area News Group as a graphic artist in various departments.”

Kathy has been married for 39 years and has 2 daughters and a son. Kathy and her husband and are avid gardeners and love having a summer vegetable garden as well as a wild mix of hollyhocks, roses and sunflowers. They love the changing seasons of Nevada County and the beauty of the countryside, not to mention that Nevada City and Grass Valley are like a picture postcard from every angle.

“I think everyone is capable of being an artist. Have you ever met a child who isn’t? Painting is so much fun and if we realize that it’s not about creating a masterpiece as much as exploring how we see the subject matter, then we’re all a work in progress,” Kathy expresses.
