Stations ready for painting class

Painting can get unpredictably messy! Some people can paint in their Sunday best, without an apron or drop cloth, and not get a speck of paint on them. But for most of us, flecks of paint end up here and there.

Today, Come Paint With Us is sharing a few ways to cut down on the mess, plus a few simple ways to clean it up after!

At every Come Paint With Us class, we want you to enjoy the painting experience, and also to leave without turning your clothes, shoes, or purse into an accidental work of art. That’s why we provide each class participant with their own apron. We also provide you with a safe place to store your coats, purses, hats, and stuff like that in an area safely away from your project. This area is close enough so that you’re able to keep an eye on your stuff, but far enough away so that it’s not hit by wandering splatters of paint.

It’s great to have one less thing to worry about when you arrive for a relaxing painting and wine class! If you do end up with painted polka dots on your clothes, just follow these simple tricks for removing the paint.

These tips will work for removing acrylic paint from most types of clothing. Is the paint still wet? Then carefully tap off any residual paint. If it’s already dried, then try to peel it off as well as you can. Then, saturate the area with isopropyl alcohol to break down the paint. (If you don’t have it, you could also use nail polish remover or dish soap.) Soak the affected area for a minute, and then rub the area with a towel. Use your fingernails to scratch the final bits of paint out. After scratching, rinse the affected area with cold water and stick it in into your washing machine for a cold rinse. Avoid putting it in the dryer until the stain is completely gone. If you can still see the stain, repeat the above steps.

And here are some tips for removing watercolor paint from your clothes: create a solution of 1-quart warm water, 1 tablespoon ammonia, and 1/2 teaspoon liquid detergent, and soak your stained garment in it for about half an hour. Rinse it well with cool water. If you can still see the paint stain, try soaking it in a solution of 1 tablespoon white vinegar and 1-quart warm water for an hour.  Rinse well and air dry.
